A Clinical Effects of Carumonam Sodium on Infections Disease in the Field of Surgery


Abstract
Carumonam, a new monocyclic ?-lactam antibiotics which has a highly potent antimicrobial activity against a number of gram-negative bacteria, was administered to 15 patients with surgical infection, including 5 with perforated appendicitis and intestinal perforation or periappendiceal abscess, 7 with GB empyema and cholecystitis or cholangitis, 3 with stomach cancer and Rt colon cancer from Aug to Dec 1992.
The results were as follows
1. Carumonarn was administered intravenously 2g a day for 5-11 days
2. The clinical effects of carumonarn on surgical field were excellent in 6, good in 8, fair in 1 patient, the overall efficacy being 93%(14 of 15 patients)
3: Carumonam has an excellent antibacterial activity against aerobic gram-negative bacilli, especially E coli and then Enterococcus, Kl. Oxytoca.
4. Side effect occurred in 1 case but not serious and in the Laboratory findings, elevating of GPT in 1 case.
Therefore carumonam was thought to be one of the most effective Antibiotics on surgical field with gram negative bacilli.
